Experience

Sosta means
‘a little rest’

Located at the gateway to the Willamette Valley, Sosta House is surrounded by some of Oregon’s oldest vineyards, planted in 1969 by our family. Less than thirty minutes from downtown Portland, tucked away on a quiet road and guarded by Italian Cyprus and towering Douglas Firs, our property is a unique destination rich with history and full of potential. When our family moved to Oregon in the late 60's, this property was the first place they called home. They planted their first vineyard and built a winery, all while living in the house our grandparents designed and built with the help of many. This home has been a beloved resting place for traveling winemakers, artists and generations of our family for over five decades. Now opening our doors to the public, we invite you to share in a legacy of joyous collaboration at Sosta House, home to rejuvenating Northwest hospitality.

Experience Sosta House

We offer our guests a variety of property amenities throughout their stay. We share the property with Hamacher Wines, their tasting room is just steps away from the house and open from 11-5pm Wednesday to Sunday, available for casual tastings on the lawn, patio or inside the cozy wine cellar amongst barrels of aging pinot noir. Guests also have the option to picnic on the lawns for a more leisurely experience. When the tasting room is closed, access to most outdoor spaces is still available to guests of Sosta House, which could mean starting your day with a crisp sunrise stroll and cup of coffee in the vineyard or ending your evening with a private bocce game and glass of local wine under a brilliant sunset sky. Our house overlooks a terraced lawn, garden and sauna platform, shaded by our treasured fig tree, beyond which stretches acres of lush Pacific Northwest rainforest insulating us from city noise and light. Guests are welcome to enjoy the grounds into the evening with a variety of outdoor seating areas for the warmer months and our garden fire pit available depending on weather conditions. Expect to be joined by a starry night sky and perhaps the soft hoot of our resident owl across the way.

While You’re Here

Although many guests come to the Willamette Valley with a long list of destinations already in mind, there is plenty to see and do without even leaving the property! Tucked just behind the Winery, Sosta House is surrounded by 10 acres of vineyard, sustainably farmed by our family. Guests are invited to walk the vineyards and enjoy the year round beauty.

For those looking to explore the area, our property sits right at the entrance to Oregon wine country with over 700 wineries less than an hour from our doors, most of which are open year round! Allow our team to plan your trip and provide you with a stress-free stay, full of the best the Willamette Valley has to offer. With three generations of deep roots in the community, we are proud to share a unique experience of the beautiful place we call home with individualized tour planning available upon request. Our team is always on-site and available for any inquiries.

The Winery

Experience the winemaking process first-hand during your stay at Sosta House. A working winery is just steps from your room. Expect to see grapes delivered to the crush pad during harvest, barrels being washed in the courtyard during the summer, a mobile bottling line out front in the spring and the art of winemaking happening all year round in the cellar.

Our Sauna &
Plunge Pool

On the second terrace sits our Sauna and cold plunge. A private oasis on a raised platform, surrounded by an airy wall made of reclaimed barrel staves, secluded from the house and winery with a view of the vineyards and Tualatin River wetlands. The barrel sauna is from Portland company Sanctuary Barrel Sauna, with two windows for daytime sunlight and lighting for relaxation after dark.

The cold plunge is just steps away, made from a repurposed wine fermenter from the early days at the winery (updated with a custom cedar insert for maximum dunking ease). We recommend a cold plunge every 15 minutes, the hourglass timer inside the sauna makes it easy to keep track! Please remove your shoes before entering the platform and leave them in the shoe storage provided to keep them dry even on rainy days. We provide towels, robes and water bottles but recommend you bring some slip on shoes for the walk from your room.

pacific Northwest neighborhood

Beyond the many fantastic wineries, the Valley is home to plenty of easily accessible day trips to immerse yourself in the beautiful nature of the Pacific Northwest. Kayaking, hiking, rock climbing and horseback riding are all available just a quick drive from the House. The Oregon Coast is roughly an hour and half away, with access to recreational fishing, crabbing and surfing. For guests who enjoy cycling, Oregon offers hundreds of miles of beautiful, bike-able roads, from the Cascade Mountains, through the Willamette Valley and all the way out to the stunning Coast Range. In the winter months, world-class skiing is just an hour away in the Cascade Mountains, along with incredible hiking in the summer.

We are always happy to recommend our favorite routes, rentals and tours.

Downtown Portland is less than 30 minutes from the House with a bustling culinary and bar scene, art galleries, breweries, distilleries, museums, ballet, opera and literary performances for the culturally curious, plus numerous local gems off the beaten path.

Whichever direction you head, stop at one of the countless notable food destinations in the area - we’re happy to provide recommendations based on your itinerary.
